Betfair is excited that Italian authorities have finally taken the decision to regulate the online gaming exchanges.

Betfair has been on the trail of the Italian Market for some time and it would seem that they are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. They are awaiting further developments on the Italian authority’s side to be able to extend its current licence to operate within the Italian Market.

The Italian government’s ministerial ruling made it very clear that licence to operate will go through a scrupulously strict European Commission’s approval process. The Italian Ministry of Finance will have the final say in granting Licenses to operate.

Betfair has always been on the look out to extend its operations within the European Jurisdiction. The company sees this as a challenging opportunity to expand its products and services. Many other international online gambling operators have been offering poker and casino games to the Italian public ever since the Italian market opened its doors.

Martin Cruddace, Betfair’s Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer is very optimistic in the light of the decree that was presented to the firm and confirmed the importance and impact this will have on this challenging and competitive market. Local Italian Authorities are confident that this will be a good thing for consumers of the online gaming market.

Betfair is an internationally recognized online sports betting company which was founded in May 1999 by Andrew Black and Ed Wray. They have since then been offering a range of innovative products, one of which was the launch of its online casino in October 2006. Betfair won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2008 and is owned by The Sporting Exchange Limited. They are licensed to operate in many jurisdictions worldwide.
